Puttur, Feb 12: A person who was returning home in his scooter after visiting Kadaba town got crushed under the weight of his own two-wheeler after the vehicle tumbled into roadside drain. The man was found dead at the spot on Wednesday February 11 morning, and it is suspected that he would have lost his life on previous night. He would have perhaps survived had someone seen him immediately after the accident.

Mohandas (49) from Alangape in Kunthoor Perabe village, a toddy tapper by profession, had left his home on Tuesday evening, informing the family members that he would return after selling areca nut grown by him. He had taken some quantity of areca nut in his scooter. As he did not return till late night, his wife, Sumathi, who happens to be the vice president of Perabe gram panchayat, searched for him with help from friends and relatives at various places from their home to Kadaba town, but had failed in her efforts. She got information that some people had seen Mohandas moving towards Padavu after crossing Balya town.

Early morning on Wednesday, some people who were walking towards the local milk society for selling milk saw that Mohandas had fallen head down under his scooter in the drain by the side of the road.

The deceased is survived by wife and two sons. Mohandas, who was earlier residing at Kodimbala in Kadaba, had shifted to Kunthoor after buying some land there some years back. Puttur rural police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, and Kaba police sub-inspector, Yogeesh Kumar, visited the spot and began investigation.
