Mangaluru, Dec 28: Free distribution of aids and appliances to differently abled persons was held here on Sunday December 28, at Taluk panchayat premises, Mangaluru.
‘Distribution camp-2014’ under ADIP scheme was organised by Pandith Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped, District Administration, Mangaluru, Department for the Empowerment of Differently abled and Senior Citizens, Rotary Club of Mangaluru, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre and Indian Red Cross Society, Mangaluru.
Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo and deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim distributed the prosthetic leg to a person whose previous prosthetic leg was damaged.
After distributing the materials, speaking to Daijiworld, Lobo said, "325 plus materials have been provided for 298 differently abled persons. Prosthetic leg, hearing machines, wheel chairs and many more are being given to them. It is a very good initiation and in district, these materials have been given to almost 300 people which is a great. This is not enough, there are still lot of children and people who are deprived from these benefits and in future, we are going to keep more and more camps to help the differently challenged persons".
Deputy director of women and children's department, Gertrude Veigas said the people who are coming here to get the benefits, should have income certificate and self declaration of caste certificate. "There is document verification and issue of token before distributing the materials. Materials such as artificial limbs or Calipers, CTEV shoes, modified shoes and posterior splint, tricycle and wheelchair, axillary crutches, elbow crutches, walking stick, walker, knee gaiter, rotator and hand gloves, hearing aids, braille cane and braille slate, MR kit, CP chair and corner chair", she added.
