Ramanagara: Man cremates daughter's body in hurry, honour killing suspected

Ramanagara, Dec 17: The rural police here got information that a man cremated the body of his daughter, who was studying PU here, with the help of his younger brother, in a hurry, without even informing his wife about the death of her daughter. The girl's father and uncle have been arrested for questioning, as many villagers suspected that it was a case of honour killing, going by the secretive manner of disposal of the girl's body.

It is said that the girl had committed suicide on Tuesday. The fact that her body was consigned to flames in the fields by her father immediately without informing anyone, gave rise to suspicion.

It is learnt that the girl was in love with a boy from the same village and belonging to the same caste, who works in Bengaluru. Although their castes happened to be the same, their sub-castes were different. As a result, the two sides fought, which gave rise to enmity. Efforts to strike an understanding were also made between the two sides. Because of this tension, the girl had not attended school for some days. Her parents had, during this period, filed a complaint stating that she had gone missing from home since December 7.

In a surprising development, the girl returned home on December 14. Thereafter, the two families met, and decided to perform her marriage after she attained the age of 18. But it is said that the family of the girl was still opposed to this alliance. It is being said that the girl, because of tension arising our of her family's objection to her marriage, committed suicide on Tuesday.

Because of the suspicion that the girl would have been killed because of ego or honour, her father, Kempe Gowda, and uncle, Rajanna, were taken into custody by the police and questioned. The mother, who was in the fields, came to know about her daughter's death hours after the cremation.

Deputy superintendent of polie, Laxmiganesh, Ramanagara rural police circle inspector, Anil Kumar, and others visited the spot and conducted spot inspection. The police have sent the skeletal remains recovered from the spot of cremation to forensic laboratory for testing.
