Kundapur, Oct 17: Police arrested a man for allegedly impregnating a girl outside marriage six months ago and cheating thousands of rupees from her family members, at Dharwad, on Friday afternoon, October 17.
After two months of pregnancy, the girl went missing and was located on Wednesday, October 15 near Theerthahalli.
Kundapur police under the direction of Kundapur station sub-inspector Nasir Hussain, DySP C B Patil and circle inspector P M Diwaker started investigations on the complaint received from the girl and arrested the accused.
Police went to Dharwad on definite information that the suspect was working in a hotel at Dharwad and arrested the suspect at about 2 pm on Friday, October 17. He was brought back to Kundapur later.
A girl hailing from Hattiangadi was a student of Keradi College. She got acquainted with a youth and gradually it tuned into love. As the days passed by, he took her around and developed sexual relationship with her. Eventually, she became pregnant and did not realize about it.
When her stomach started to bulge after three months, she made her family members believe that a tumour was growing in her stomach. Her brother who lives in Bangalore then told her to conduct a surgery and remove the tumour. After this, the girl went missing. She was found at Theerthahalli on Monday after two months. Based on the information obtained from her, she has been handed over to her family members.
It is learnt that the suspect, who was responsible for her pregnancy, has cheated her systematically after he came to know of her pregnancy. He went to the girl’s house once along with her and told them that he was a lecturer. He further told that his mother was sick and needed Rs 50 thousands for her treatment. He took some jewellery from her, mortgaged it in Karnataka Bank and took Rs 50 thousands from there.
After all this, he switched off his mobile. In all this, the girl’s family members remained quiet fearing to spoil the name of the family.
The girl fled from home when she heard that her brother was coming home. She met a Lorry conductor at Mangalore bus stand and told him her story. The lorry conductor took her in his lorry saying that he would get the baby aborted. The conductor brought the girl to the house of a lorry driver at Theerthahalli. He told them that she was the daughter of his elder sister and a tumour was growing in her stomach. According to her, the driver brought her there for surgery. The driver who believed the conductor kept the girl in his house.
After two days the conductor came to the driver saying that the doctor had asked him to bring the girl and needed Rs one lac for her operation. The poor driver gave him Rs 60 thousands which he had kept to pay the instalment for lorry loan. The conductor also cheated the driver and fled with the money.
The lorry driver and the girl were both cheated and distressed by the developments. There is a bond in the name of the girl which gets matured and she says she would pay the driver his money when she gets it.
After all this, the girl called a person who came to her rescue. She came back to Theerthahalli with him.
