Electioneering for three bypolls in State to end on Aug 19

Bangalore, Aug 18: Public electioneering for the three Legislative Assembly Constituencies, which go to bypolls on August 21, will end on Tuesday August 19 evening.

Both Congress and BJP leaders have been intensively campaigning for their candidates during the last one week.

The JD(S) has not fielded its candidates in the three constituencies, ostensibly "due to lack of funds."

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC Chief Dr G Parameshwara and several Cabinet Ministers have been campaigning in three constituencies – Chikkodi-Sadalaga, Shikaripura and Bellary (ST) – during the last few days.

BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa and party MPs, have been campaigning in constituencies to win all three seats.

Though there are 22 candidates are in the fray in the three constituencies, there would be direct electoral battle between the ruling Congress and the principal Opposition BJP.

Yeddyurappa’s son and former BJP MP from Shimoga is the BJP candidate from Shikaripur while the Congress has fielded H S ShanthaveerappaGowda.A total of eight candidates are in the fray in Shikaripura constituency.

A total of nine candidates are in the fray inChikkodi-Sadalaga. The poll would witness a direct contest between KavatagimathMahanteshMallikarjun (BJP) and Ganesh Prakash Hukkeri (Congress), son of former Minister Prakash Hukkeri, MP.

Obalesh (BJP) and N Y Gopalakrishna (Congress) are among the five candidates in the fray in Bellary (ST) constituency.
