Mangalore, Jul 23: The DK District Ex-Servicemen's Association in collaboration with Lions Club and Centre For Intergrated Learning will organize Kargil Diwas to pay homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
"'Kargil Vijay Diwas' marks India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war fought in 1999. Hence, as a part of the programme, a solemn function of lighting candles and offering floral tributes will be held at War Memorial, Kadri on Saturday July 26 to pay respect to the martyrs," said colonel Nitteguthu Sharath Bhandary, president of DK District EX-Servicemen's Association.
He was addressing a press meet here on Wednessday July 23.
Sachitha Nanda Gopal of Centre For Intergrated Learning (CIL) said, "In view of inculcationg a sense of patrotism and national pride among the students, the association in collaboration with the DK District Ex-Servicemen's Association and Lions Club will conduct an inter-school workshop on patriotism and national pride at Lions Seva Mandir on July 26, as a part of Kargil Vijay Diwas."
Audio-visual presentations, group discussions, talks and patrotic quiz organized on the occasion will be an opportunity for the high school students to realize their role in nation building. Participation of students in the programme will provide them with an opportunity to interact and listen to the experiences of the ex-servicemen too.
Air vice marshal (retired) Ramesh Karnik, Harish Kumar, M C Badraiah and Bhagwan Shetty will be honoured on the occasion.
CIL realized the need to honour the martyrs and has been celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas since the last five years.
The press meet stated that the programme will be inaugurated by the governor of Lions International District 317 D, H S Manjunathmurthy and will be presided over by chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat Thulasi Maddineni.
Brigadier I N Rai, war vetran, S M Airan, general secretary, DK District Ex-Servicemen's Association and Lion C P Dinesh, president, Lions Club, Mangalore were present during the press meet.
