Beltangady, Jun 15: The policemen claimed success in bringingout the truth behind the incident in which the body of Mahesh Naik (25) was found lying face down in agricultural fields. They have treated this incident as murder, and arrested three persons.
Naik, who had left home on Wednesday night for catch fish which flow into the fields with the overflowing water of river, was found to have died in the fields the next day. A trap laid for wild boars was found on the spot, and the trap had been connected with live wire drawn from a nearby pumpshed. However, as there were telltale signs tampering, the policemen had suspected that the youth was murdered elsewhere, and his body was dumped here to make it appear as if he had been electrocuted.
The arrested men are Rajesh Naik (24), Mahesh Gowda (29), and Praveen Gowda (25), all from Ichchavu Mane. On being produced in the court, all of them were remanded to 15 days judicial custody. They had accompanied Naik in his fishing trip.
During intensive questioning, the policemen came to know that after Mahesh Naik got stuck in the trap laid by Mahesh Gowda, son of Udane Babanna Gowda in his fields, he suffered severe electric shocks, as the trap was connected to power supply. Rajesh swung his sword in an attempt to cut the electric cable, but the weapon missed the target and severed Mahesh's hand. Developing cold feet, he left the spot and went home.
Mahesh Gowda, who came to check on Thursday morning for trapped animals, became fearful at the sight he came across. As he was afraid that he would be punished for illegally connecting trap to power, he shifted the body of Naik to the pumpshed with the help of his brother, Praveen Gowda. He then placed the body at its original position, after cutting the service wire, the policemen have now foundout.
