Mangalore: Hawala accused Zubair's son dies at quarry

Mangalore, Jun 14: The 19-year-old son of Zubair, who was last year arrested by the Bihar police in connection to hawala racket with links to Pakistan, met a tragic end in a quarry at Kandavar, Kaikamba here on Saturday June 14.

The deceased has been identified as Saifulla (19). He was an electrician by profession.

Zubair and his first wife Aysha Banu, residents of Panjimogaru, had been arrested last year by the Bihar police on charges of being part of a hawala racket sourced from Pakistan. Currently, both are in the custody of Chhattisgarh police.

It is said that Saifulla died after falling into a body of water at a white stone quarry at Kandavar. He had come to the quarry to repair a pump set, it is learnt.

However, sources said that the water was not deep enough to take a person's life and it is suspected that he might have fallen into the water after being electrocuted. The family expressed suspicions of foul play and urged for a thorough enquiry.

Bajpe police have registered a case. The body was shifted to Wenlock for post-mortem.

Saifulla was the son of Zubair's second wife. His another son, from Aysha, is also said to be ill, and recently, the Chattisgarh police had sent a notice to Mangalore police informing about he child's sickness. The Kavoor police, finding no one at the family's house in Panjimogaru, had pasted the notice on the door.
