Arrest of Melwin in Kuwait: Richard Castelino absconding, case filed

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jun 14: Assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Karkala, has issued a search notice for Richard Lewis Castelino (45), resident of Royal Villa, Kudwa Compound, Kuntalpadi, Karkala.

Richard is wanted by the police in connection to a case filed at the town police station here, by Carol Fernandes, whose husband Melwin was arrested by the Kuwaiti authorities for carrying a banned medicine that Richard Castelino's wife had given as parcel to be handed over to her husband in Kuwait.

The police have found that Richard is absconding, and as per their information, he had travelled abroad by using fake passport. It is said that Richard had been living in Kuwait without valid documents.

The police have sought help from the general public to track the said accused. The ASP has requested people to convey any information they have relating to Richard Lewis Castelino's current whereabouts, to Karkala police station (phone no: 08258-230213, mobile: 9480805461).

Carol Fernandes, wife of Melwin Fernandes from Karkala, had filed a complaint with Karkala police relating to a consignment of tablets reportedly sent by Justine Castelino, wife of Richard Castelino who resides in Kuwait, through Melwin Fernandes. Melwin, who works in Kuwait, was on a visit home, and during his return journey in February this year, he was requested by Justine to hand over a parcel of tablets which she claimed was required for medical needs of her husband in Kuwait. Melwin was detained at Kuwait airport, after the tablets in his possession were found to be containing Tramadol, a banned substance in Kuwait.

Melwin contacted his wife to get authorized prescription required for his release from the person who sent the tablets. Instead of helping her, Carol says Justine told her that it was her husband's responsibility to check whether carrying of that medicine was legal.

Carol is now trying to secure details like name, passport number etc used by Richard to reach Kuwait, in her efforts for securing the release of her husband. She says she is now facing ignominy and insult wherever she goes because of the fact that her husband was arrested for carrying banned substance. She has requested the people to help her to get her husband's name cleared. Those having information may contact Carol by email: caral2255@ yahoo.com.

When someone is caught on the wrong foot, start passing the buck. The parcel was taken in good faith and the person who gave the parcel should be arrested as the person will know what the contents was or she may start passing the buck, sorry rupee.

In an earlier report Justine Castelino had denied that medicines were sent by her for her husband Richard Castelino in Kuwait. She had said that her husband is very healthy and doesn't take even one tablet. I think Richard is simply being made a scapegoat.

How can Richard Castelino be hauled up by the Karkal Police for this ? The problem is in Kuwait and Melwyn had the drugs ( medicines ) in his bag. Richard is innocent as for the Kuwait law. On the other hand Melwyn may have purchased more medicines ( drugs ) for his friends to sell at a profit ( ? ). Those probably were the banned drugs which were actually caught ( ? ). A coin has 2 sides. We have been hearing stories from one side only.

The other point is as to how Melwyn's wife Carol Fernandes knows that Richard Castelino has gone abroad that too on a fake passport ? Was she at the Mangalore airport immigration counter the moment of Richards departure ?

Can Carol Fernandes deny the fact that the banned drugs caught were actually carried by Melwyn Fernandes himself and found in his bag by Kuwaiti Customs ?

Melwyn Fernandes became a 'carrier' for banned drugs. Although it was done ( sent ) in good faith by Richard Castelino, Melwyn should have demanded ( from Richard ) a medical prescription in his name for the same medicines showing that it was for him / personal use. This may have diluted the case in Kuwait. But it is dangerous to take / carry medicinal drugs for others and get caught and lose your job.

His picture itself tells he is a drug addict and alcoholic.if he is in Kuwait publish his picture in one of the local news paper he will be caught within no time. Once anyone goes inside Kuwait jail it is very very difficult to get out from there unless u have a big waastha. Even Indian mission in Kuwait also helpless in such issues. Be careful guys.
