Mangalore, Jun 13: The Lokayukta on Friday June 13 caught a senior official of the Ullal town municipal council (TMC) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

Chetan S Kolavi, chief executive officer of the Ullal TMC, was caught after the Lokayukata, based on a complaint by civil contractor Guruprakash, laid a trap for him.

As per Guruprakash's complaint, Chetan Kolavi had demanded 16 percent of a Rs 17.5-lac project, and refused to sign the documents to initiate the project unless he was paid the money.

Guruprakash then informed the Lokayukta police, and as per their instructions, told Chetan that he would pay him Rs 50,000 as first installment.

Accordingly, on Friday, when Guruprakash contacted him to give the money, Chetan first asked him to meet him at Thokkottu, then told him to come to Kapikad. He again changed plans and asked him to come home.

Meanwhile, the officials of the Lokayukta kept a keen watch, and just as Chetan was about to accept the money (Rs 50,000), they barged into his house and caught him, besides seizing the money.

Following the operation, the Lokayukta officials decided to conduct a full-fledged raid on Chetan's residence and inspection is still on.

    Dear Lokayuktha,
Thanks for your recent actions against corrupt people. But I want to ask you one question that why cant you observe and directly ride the offices like sub-registrar, muncipal office where the officials are accepting the bribe in the office itself and putting the money into their drawers. Kindly send your people who are not known to these corrupt officials and ask them to watch for a day or two, then you will come to know how corrupt the se people are?

    Thank you,

    Prakash

respected sir, that is not his own house. he is a resident from banglore and he is a tenant staying there from past 3 or 4 months. That house is named 'NAMO NILAYA' and has been constructed 12 or 13 years back so please do not comment on its name and MR MODI has no relation or connection in this matter, so please don't spoil his name

Dear, Mr. Christopher DCunha, M'lore/AUH first of all understand the History of Lok-ayukta when it was formed and under which government, and who has exposed all the Major scams that has hit the country, I guess you like others have no power of Discernment but just go by the words of paid media unfortunately, its only dishonest need to convince the world which they do in all forms/means and the world believes.

Now whoever paid him the bribes in the past should come forward and state that in the affidavit as prosecution witness under immunity.

Lokayukta doesn't have to catch many corrupts, instead catch a few, skin them thoroughly and make them beg on the street for living.

This will send a strong message to other corrupts.

How we would treat a person who robbed the government treasury for Rs.2 lakhs?

Here is a good news that Lokayukta of Udupi & Dk have become active. Earlier the raids were only in Bangalore etc making us feel that corruption is only rampant in those places. However, Karavali which hitherto having a 'clean' image has now been infested with many corrupt officials. Most of the Govt service departments including Mescom, Municipalities, Taluk offices etc have been infected. I have experienced this in the last one year after migrating back to home town. There exists a nexus between contractors-agents & officials. People must come forward to expose this dangerous disease. Lets join hands.

Just imagine when even such small fish demand and get so much of easy money then just extrapolate and calculate if one were to assume 80% of such people working in Govt. offices, except perhaps our humble Post Office, what the amount would be, it could run in 10s of thousands of crores!! And it is this black money which runs a parallel economy mainly responsible for the ever rising inflation and unrealistic real estate prices, simply because such huge sums of money cannot be deposited legally in bank and has to be deployed somewhere so most of it goes into real estate, gold, in the coffers of religious places, and the rest in splurging!! These are the real white collar thugs who should be punished severely for misusing their powers and instead of helping people for which they are paid, they extort money even for straight work!! Shame on such corrupted chaps!!

I am not interested to know what happens next. I have seen many such cases, but later it will be silent. Please let us know what happened to his wealth which will be seized by govt. What is the verdict for the crime ? Then only it's justified. Just raiding and declaring this, it's like half done job.
