Mangalore, Jun 18: The elections to the South-West Teachers Constituency and South-West Graduates Constituencies were conducted smoothly here on Saturday. Barring a few reported discrepancies in the voters' lists, polling was peaceful.

According to the district office, voting in the six districts recorded 57.7 per cent in the South-West Graduates Constituency and 67.55 per cent in South-West Teachers Constituency. The constituencies comprise Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Davanagere and Shimoga.

In the South-West Graduates Constituency, Dakshina Kannada recorded the highest polling percentage with 61.28 per cent followed by Shimoga with 60.14 per cent, Kodagu with 60.06 per cent, Udupi with 58.06 per cent, Davanagere with 55.23 per cent and Chikmagalur with 50.33 per cent.

In the South-West Teachers Constituency, Davanagere recorded the highest polling with 71.05 per cent followed by Udupi with 69 per cent, Shimoga with 68.86 per cent, Chikmagalur with 66.39 per cent, Kodagu with 65 per cent and Dakshina Kannada with 64.99 per cent. In two or three booths in Dakshina Kannada, there were reports of discrepancies in the voters' list.

Some voters found their numbers different but were allowed to vote once they showed their identity cards.

For the Additional Superintendent of Police B S Lokesh Kumar instead of his number 319, he was assigned 399. However, the polling officer was able to correct the mistake.
