Mangalore, Jun 6: In a letter to state chief ,minister H D Kumaraswamy, central Administrative Reforms Commission chairman and former chief minister Marpady Veerappa Moily has urged him to release relief funds to the tune of Rs 2 crore for preventive measures for sea erosion in the Ullal vicinity.

Since the chief minister had a week ago visited the affected areas and apprised himself of the grave situation, lack of funds should not be a pretext for sanction of funds, he has said.

Further, Moily has also sought sanction of further funds to the families of the affected fishermen and grant of further Rs 50,000 to the family of Shivarama Devadiga, who lost his life here in a rain-related mishap.

Besides, he has urged that government should provide relief to those boats which had not been insured. Other demands Moily has made in his letter are for dredging works in all the estuaries in the coastal areas, provision of two tugs in Malpe and recognition of fishing as a form of farming and provision of loans at 4 per cent interest accordingly.
