Kuwait, Dec 7: As a part of 25 years silver Jubilee celebration, after a grand success of Athletic meet and talent competition in October and November, Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA), under the leadership of its president Anil Fernandes, organized its annual Christmas Party at the Indian Community School (ICSK) Auditorium on Friday December 6, from 6:00 pm onwards. Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais, Provincial Minister- Capuchin Provincialate, Karnataka was the chief guest.
The program commenced with Christmas star competition which showcased talents of members who showed their creativity in star making followed by live singing by Kuwait’s popular Konkani singers. After the brief introduction by compere of the evening Deepak Andrade, President Anil Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Sponsors of the event and Scholarship Sponsors were felicitated by Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais and Fr. Noel D'Almeida.
The merit scholarships sponsored by Sam Alphonso, Felix Saldanha Saldanha, Lawrence D’Souza and Nithin Castelino were awarded to the students of tenth and twelfth standard from Kuwait and India, for their academic excellence. Herald D’Souza of ‘Spinns Confectionery’-sponsored extra-curricular award for the members' children, was awarded for the children who won in the CBSE inter-school competitions, inter-college competitions or represented the school outside the state/country in the academic year 2012-13. Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais delivered the Christmas message to the gathering.
Lots of spot prizes were awarded in between the dance session. Christmas tableau directed by Lancy Rodrigues and played by Fr. Noel D’Almeida, Anil Fernandes, Anil Menezes and Lydia Misquit along with a message was one of the events of the day. The music was given by Kiran Gonsalves. Children were excited, as they were loaded with lots of chocolates and gifts, once Santa made his entry after the carol singing by Abbassiya Choir group.
Prizes were distributed to the Christmas Star competition winners. Special member’s draws were held for the active members present on the venue, and also for the renewal of the memberships for 2014 and life members. Hamper draw was held with fabulous prizes during the event. A painting of Trevor was auctioned among audience. Auction of Christmas tree was done as a part of fund raising for the education of poor children in India.
A sentimental dance on unwanted girl child birth was presented by Talent competition group dance category winner 'DESI STRIKERS' which was appreciated by everyone. Rajesh Aranha delivered the word of gratitude and Fr. Noel D'Almeida offered the grace before meal. A grand dinner prepared by Caesars Restaurant was served at the end. The program was well compered by Deepak Andrade, Reema D’Souza and Manohar Prabhu.
As a final part of 25 years of its existence, KCWA will be having a grand celebration on 25th April 2014 along with Musical evening ‘Retro to Metro’ from a well known troupe from Mangalore and internationally famous Konkani drama “Aami Nathlyaa Vellar” by Daiji Rang Mandir- Dubai. KCWA has already contributed 27 million Rupees towards poor children’s education since its existence.
