Bantwal: Tanker driver sentenced eight years after fatal accident

Bantwal, Dec 6: Bantwal court on Thursday December 5 sentenced the driver of a tanker to one year and nine months of imprisonment for causing the death of two persons in an accident that occurred eight years ago.
Vasanth, son of Hanumegowda, a resident of Dandiga of Channarayapatna of Hassan district is driver convicted of the crime.
On May 19, 2005, the tanker he was driving had collided with a Qualis car in front of a pre-university college at Mani on NH 75. The Qualis was plying from Mangalore to Bangalore.
Kunjathbail resident Kusumakara (45) and Mangalore Ballalbagh resident Suresh K (43) who were in the Qualis had died in the accident. Out of the eight passengers in the car, Rajashekar, Shesha, Krishna, Sadashiva, Satyendra and Nagaraja were seriously injured.
It was said that high speed and reckless driving of the tanker driver had caused the accident. A case was registered in the Vittal police station and investigation was going on for the last eight years.
