Mangalore: Gold found concealed in coffee powder at Airport

Mangalore, Dec 6: On Thursday December 5, Mangalore airport customs officials arrested a Kasargod-bound passenger for trying to smuggle in half kg gold mixed with coffee powder !
The passenger has been identified as Mohammed Ashraf, who landed at the airport from Dubai.
The estimated value of the gold is Rs 16 lac. Customs officials later produced the accused in the court.
Concealing gold in coffee packets was the latest among tactics used for smuggling gold, after several innovative attempts by air passenger in the recent months went in vain.
Speaking to daijiworld, a customs official who requested anonymity said that it is disturbing to see that despite several arrests made in the last few months, people are trying to fool the officials using different tactics. But they must be aware that Mangalore customs officials have sophisticated and advanced machines to detect and foil such attempts, he said.
