Mangalore, Sep 23: Residents of Idya on Sunday September 22 gheraoed Suratkal police station and took the inspector to task after a cow was stolen from a house in Idya on Saturday September 21 night.
On Saturday night at around 3 am, a cow belonging to Vasathi Giriyappa from Idya was stolen. At around 4 am, the theft came to light and soon the police was informed.
Condemning the theft at Idya, the locals protested demanding arrest of the thieves soon. "Once again police have failed to protect the citizens from cattle thieves. They have been unsuccessful in curbing the rising number of cattle thefts in undivided Dakshina Kannada districts," they lamented.
Locals questioned the police officials and alleged that they were least bothered to arrest the cattle thieves despite having information about them.
Speaking on behalf of the locals, Hindu organization leader Satyajith Suratkal said, "When people co-operate or join hands to catch the cattle thieves, unnecessary cases are booked against them for doing so."
"Even though police promised to catch the thieves brandished weapons and stole cattle belonging to Mahadevi, they are still not arrested even after two months," he said.
MCC member Ashok Shetty was present.
