Udupi, Sep 7: Deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju called for a press meet here on Friday September 6 to resolve issues related to Aadhar card.
He appealed to the public not panic as grace period of another three months will be given to apply for the Aadhar card.
Aadhar card should be linked to the bank accounts of the beneficiary of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programme by central government which will be initiated in the district on October 1.
“E-governance department is carrying out work for planning commission in case of issuing Aadhar cards, while census directorate is carrying out work of issuing NPR identity cards for home department. Around 2.53 lac people have received Aadhar card so far. Above 50,000 received through post offices. Nearly 17,000 applications have been rejected,” he informed.
Out of 12 lac population in the district, data has been collected from 8.6 lac. NPR cards are generated for 6.1 lac population.
DC also said that applications for Aadhar card can be collected from three post offices in the district, two in Udupi and one in Byndoor.
There are nearly 2,03,000 LPG holders in the district. People can avail the benefit by producing the identity number which is availed through UIDAI website.
