Mangalore, Aug 2: Minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai on Friday August 2 planted a sapling at Kadri, as part of Vanamahotsava, organized by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association and Mangalore Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said, “It is important to plant trees and should create awareness among people in this regard”. Like food, even trees are important for a man and all citizens should indulge in planting saplings around him, he advised.
Stressing on the importance of conserving environment, Rai said it is an international issue and lauded journalists association for organizing a meaningful programme.
Minister Rai will also kick-start the state-level ‘Laksha Vruksha’ (lac tree plantation campaign) Andolan programme on August 3.
Forest conservation officer Shantappa, deputy conservator of forest O Palaiah, Jagannath Shetty Bala, corporator Shashidar Hegde, corporator Mahabala Marla, working journalist association president P B Harish Rai, Press Club president Ramakrishna among others were present.
