Mangalore, May 3: “In Karnataka, we can see waves of the Congress party and it is a sign of victory for the Congress. People will chose the Congress because the BJP has failed to fulfill the promises in 2008 like rice at Rs 2, employment, electricity, and increase in irrigation potentiality. The state failed to provide harmony. Rampant corruption by the BJP government resulted in losses of lacs of crores of rupees to the government in illegal mining and other forms of corruption,” said Congress leader V S Ugrappa, addressing the press meet held in the city Thursday May 2.
Slamming Modi for his comments, Ugrappa said that Modi is a sadist and 'encounter specialist'. “BJP leaders project Gujarat as a developed state but 46 percent people suffer from malnutrition Gujarat. Is this development? I feel that the BJP is not Bharatiya Janata Party but it is ‘Brasta Janara’ Party (corrupt people’s party ),” he added.
He said that even the Lokayukta submitted a report on 27 July 2011. “The report asserted that Rs 22,000 crore was siphoned through illegal mining. A case was filed under Lokayuktha Act Section 12; it stated that the loss to the government should be recovered. But the BJP government failed to do that. In future, if the Congress comes to power, it will surely confiscate the illegal property gained by the illegal mining business and stringent action will be taken against them.”
“The BJP has lost its moral right. They project that Karnataka has been developed by the BJP government, but what have they have developed? Development means increasing power, and providing good infrastructure from basic level to higher level. The BJP leaders have brought the currency note counting machines to their homes and this the development they have done for Karnataka,” added Ugrappa.
