Udupi, May 3: For the first time in the district, an independent candidate has blamed the election commission for not providing the voters list and requested postponement of the upcoming election.
Vijay Hegde, member, Raitha Sangha, contesting as an independent candidate from Kaup constituency, urged the postponement of the upcoming assembly election as he has not got enough time to campaign due to the election commission’s lack of support. He alleged that the system here is partial to the three leading parties and not at all supportive to the independent candidate.
Hegde blamed the election commission and questioned its transparency. He stressed that there is partiality by the election commission towards the BJP, JD(S), and the Congress. The system is not supportive of independent candidates.
He said, “Party candidates and independent candidates pay the same amount for election purposes. Then why are we made to run around for things while they get enough support.”
Hegde alleged that he did not get enough time to campaign for the election because he was made to run around for days to fulfill the formalities. A mail to this effect was sent to the returning officer and the president.
