Udupi, Apr 29: Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhavan at Kaup in the district on Sunday April 28, former union minister, B Janardhana Poojary, predicted that the situation in the state is very much conducive to the Congress, and therefore, his party will muster two thirds majority. He also said that going by the current trend, no party is able to offer any semblance of resistance to the forward march of his party.
“The national leaders of the BJP are, in their addresses, pointing out price rise and scams of the union government. Unfortunately, they have not been able to see that their own government had indulged in corruption, irregularities, scams, and immoral activities,” he added. He termed the BJP’s claim of working for the welfare of the minorities as false. “How can a party, which has not issued a single ticket to minority candidates, boast of working for the minorities?” he questioned.
Poojary said he is pained at the unexpected decision taken by veteran Congress leader, Vasant Salian, to contest as a JD(S) candidate from Kaup constituency. He said that Congress party leaders have continued their efforts to assuage Salian’s feelings and convince him, and that the Congress will extend a warm welcome to Salian, if he withdraws from the election fray. “Our candidate, Vinay Kumar Sorake, is a seasoned politician, having the experience of functioning as MLA twice and MP once. Sonia Gandhi has picked him for the constituency considering his track record. We will ensure Sorake’s victory and also get him a ministerial berth this time,” he promised.
To a question of the journalists about the benefits of Narendra Modi’s visit to the state, Poojary claimed that Modi’s visit will result in additional votes for the Congress. “Our people have not forgotten the genocide let loose in Gujarat when Modi was in power. How can the people accept Modi, who provided maladministration?” he questioned.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, B A Mohiuddin, Ramji Thomas, Kaup Diwakar Shetty and several other Congress leaders were present.
