Mangalore, Apr 28: BJP legislators from Goa, Michael Lobo (Calangute), Glenn D’souza Ticolo (Aldona), and Nilesh Cabral (Curchorem), apart from BJP working committee member, Juinho D’Souza, and vice-president, Datta Prasad Kholkar, were in the city on Saturday April 27 to woo minority voters to elect BJP candidates. They will take part in electioneering for BJP candidates for two days.
Addressing the journalists after inaugurating the hi-tech electioneering vehicle with giant screen, Michael Lobo stressed that BJP is wrongly branded as communal. “The Congressmen are spreading the concept that BJP is communal, thereby giving rise to a sense of fear among the minority voters. In Goa, Congress led a corrupt government, before BJP government came to power and began to provide good governance,” he added.
“As much as 70% of minorities make up the population of Goa. It is a tourism-oriented state. With absolute majority Goa’s minorities have voted for BJP to wipe out the corrupt Congress party. Congress tried to finish and destroy Goa and also supported communalism. We minorities mingled with majority people. So I appeal all minorities to vote for BJP. BJP is not communal party but Congress has projected BJP as communal party. Hence more minorities should join BJP. We have also met bishop and appealed for his support
He said that the BJP government in Goa has seven Christian MLAs, and that there have not been any communal clashes since the government assumed power. “The BJP government there has been concentrating on regional development. We request minorities to wholeheartedly support the BJP,” he said.
Karnataka MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, said that Bajrang Dal happens to be the youth wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishat, and that BJP does not have any association with it.
BJP office bearers, Nitin Kumar, Rajgopal Rai, and several others were present at the press conference.
