Udupi: Nagamandala, religious function attract devotees in large numbers

Udupi, Mar 26: “Every person residing in Tulunadu is bound by a duty to pay his respects to the serpents. Because, snakes were the first living creatures in the mass of land spread between Arabian Sea in the west to the Western Ghats in the east. Therefore, serpents are our elders and hence deserve reverence and respect,” said Janapada scholar, K L Kundantaya.
He was addressing the gathering at the religious function held as part o the Chatuhpavitra Nagabrahma Mandala programme held on Sunday March 24 under the aegis of Taudabettu Sarvajanika Sri Nagabrahmasthana Seva Samiti in Kote, Katapadi.
The function was inaugurated by Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt, Udupi. The Swamiji also delivered benedictory address on this occasion. Sri Kalahastendra Saraswati Swamiji of Katapadi Anegondi Mutt, and trustee of Ambalpady Lord Janardhan and Goddess Mahakali temple, Dr Ni Bee Vijaya Ballal, also spoke at the meeting.
President of the committee and former minister, Vasant V Salian, presided. Kaup MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, former president of the zilla panchayat, Katapadi Shankar Poojary, Kote gram panchayat president, Vijay Ballal, and Prashant Jathanna, participated as chief guests. Raju Amin, vice president of the committee, Srikar Suvarna Katapadi, C Krishna Sanil Kankanabettu, Bhaskar Acharya Taudabettu, Uday Kumar Y, secretary, Sushil B Bolar, joint secretary, Ramesh Kotian, and treasurer, Sureh Kumar, along with many others were present.
The religious rituals connected with the Nagabrahma Mandala were held on a grand scale at night, under the guidance and participation of Nagapatri, Vedamurty Kakkunje Nagananda Vasudev Acharya, and Krishnaprasad Vaidya Muddoor.
