Bengaluru, Jan 22: The Karnataka State Film Awards for 2019 were announced today, with Sudeep and Anupama Gowda taking home the top acting honors. Sudeep won the Best Actor for his performance in the sports drama Pailwan, while Anupama was named Best Actress for her role in the thriller 'Trayambakam'.
The Best Film award went to P. Sheshadri's 'Mohandas', a critically acclaimed film that also triumphed in the Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography categories. Darling Krishna's 'Love Mocktail' secured the Second Best Film award, followed by 'Arghyam' in the third place. 'Love Mocktail', a popular romantic comedy, also earned Best Screenplay and Best Playback Singer (Male) for Raghu Dixit.
In other key categories, Nagathihalli Chandrashekar’s 'India vs England' was chosen as the Best Popular Film, while 'Kanneri' was recognised with the Best Film on Social Cause award. V. Harikrishna won Best Music Director for his work on 'Yajamana', starring Darshan.
The awards ceremony has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Karnataka government had announced the 2018 winners earlier, but the award functions for 2019 and subsequent years were postponed.
During the 15th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes) in March 2024, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that a committee had been formed to decide the winners for 2019, attributing the delays to the pandemic.
