Kundapur: Speeding Bike Mows Down Woman

Kundapur, Nov 13: A woman was killed after a bike rammed into her at Shastri Circle, opposite Kundeshwar Temple here on Tuesday November 13.

The deceased has been identified as Vasanthi Adiga (42), wife of Laximinarayan Adiga, a resident of Bidkal Katte, Hardalli village.

It is said that Vasanthi had gone out to get medicines for her two children, both of whom are physically challenged.

The accident occured when a bike, ridden by Sadanand from Tekkatte rammed into her while she was crossing the road. It is said that, Sadanand, who was on his way to Kundapur, was riding at a high speed.

Vasanthi sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, from where she was taken to Manipal on the advise of doctors. However, she breathed her last on the way to Manipal.

A case has been registered in the Kundapur police station.

    I am from Kundapura

    I drive to Kundapura almost daily. The junction Called ‘SHASTRI CIRCLE is a very dangerous spot. Neither you can blame pedestrians nor the drivers! It is a chaos with busses plying to north and south stop from here with most passengers alighting or boarding from this junction and crossing the roads recklessly.

    Once, despite my slow driving, one person jumped on road to cross and broke my side-view mirror. The person ran away in a hurry. It seems all are in hurry here.

    Traffic lights were installed years back but they are not operational.

    also, there is no ZEBRA CROSSING here.

    Until the NH 66 work is completed there cannot be much relief. Also, more than one traffic police in this junction may help provided they are duty conscious and not gossiping with others and busy with other activities.

    My hats off to Mr. Sylvester D’Souza (I do not know him) who reports Kundapura News promptly and before it appears in Kannada dailies which makes me to scan “Daiji” before other papers. Certainly, ‘Daiji’ has brought a good change for Kundapura through him.

    People who drive recklessly, don't understand importance of lives of people around them.
    Reaaly feel sad for the physically challenged children of deceased.

    Some people behave like blind while riding vehicles. They cannot see people on the road. Another innocent woman lost her life to the speeding vehicle. Accidents have increased and casualties more after road widening in D.K. and Udupi Districts. Earlier it was not like this. Now a days less human values. Simple rush to blind destination. May her soul rest in peace.

    Physically Challenged children and now their main care taker, the mother passes away all of a sudden...... Daiji please initiate an appeal to start a fund for their future.
