Rio de Janeiro, May 4 (IANS/EFE): Centenarian Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer has been hospitalized here with a respiratory infection, medical officials said Thursday.
The 104-year-old entered Rio de Janeiro's Samaritan hospital Wednesday night, a spokesman at the medical facility said.
The architect's daughter, Ana Lucia Niemeyer, told local media that her father is not in serious condition and was merely receiving fluids intravenously for help him in recovering from a cold.
Niemeyer is internationally known for designing the main government buildings in Brasilia - Brazil's futuristic capital, founded in 1960 - and dozens of works in other cities around the world.
He was hospitalized for 12 days in April 2010 due to a urinary tract infection and spent 24 days in the hospital in September and October 2009 with an intestinal tumor, which was surgically removed.
