Mangalore, Apr 30: The silver jubilee celebrations of the priestly ordination of Fr Mathew Vas, parish priest, Guardian Angel parish, Angelore was held here on Sunday April 29.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza concelebrated the Eucharistic Celebration at Angelore parish with nearly 30 clergy at 10.00 am on Sunday.
Mangalore diocesan vicar Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes and Blossom couple, Fr Mathew Vas’s mother Lucy and others were present on the dais.
Bishop D’Souza felicitated Fr Vas by draping the shawl and presenting flower bouquets and fruits, and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavour.
Angelore parish council vice-president Albert Lasrado, and secretary Julian Mascarenhas read the felicitation address.
Lasrado said that Fr Vas has deep concern for the poor in the parish, and has many plans to uplift them in their misery. “The parish community has seen spiritual awakening since Fr Vas took over as parish priest of Angelore,” he said.
Fr Vas served in Bela, Udupi–Mother of Sorrows parish, and other parishes in Mangalore diocese and took charge as Angelore parish priest in May 2011.
The representatives of Udupi parish, Angelore assistant parish priest Fr Santosh Lobo, and Sisters of Charity Provincial Superior Sr Matilda Monteiro were also present on the occasion.
The parishioner children staged a welcome dance. Judy D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
Over 2,000 people from across the city deanery were present during the programme and shared a fellowship meal, especially prepared by the parish community.
