Mangalore, Mar 10: Champion Indian hockey player S V Sunil Acharya, who hails from Coorg district, was felicitated at Shree Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple here on Saturday March 10 during his visit to the city.
Sunil was instrumental in India's phenomenal success in the Olympic qualifying tournament that was held in New Delhi recently, winning two man-of-the-match awards. He is the son of Vittal and Shantha Acharya from Somwarpet.
Acknowledging the honour, Sunil thanked his family, especially his parents for their constant encouragement, and said that he was looking forward to play in the London Olympics later this year.
Shree Devi Educational Institutions chairman Sadananda Shetty showered praises on Sunil and wished him all success. He also assured his wholehearted assistance to sportspersons if sought.
Among those present were Shree Kaalikamba Vinayaka temple authorities, Keshavachar Sri Kaalahasthendra Saraswati Swamiji from Katapadi and Shri Shivasujnanamurty Swamiji from Hassan.
