New Delhi, Apr 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting on Thursday to assess progress on cleaning the Yamuna River, reaffirming his commitment to personally oversee its transformation ahead of major festivals like Chhath Puja.

The review focused on using advanced technologies to monitor pollution levels and ensure sewage treatment plants function efficiently. Modi emphasized the need for real-time data collection and even suggested the use of space technology to track water flows and infrastructure performance.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of a holistic Urban River Management Plan for Delhi, to be integrated with the city's Master Plan to address issues like leakages in the drinking water system and better manage wastewater treatment.

Public participation was a key theme, with a push for a Jan Bhagidari Movement to engage volunteers in river cleanup, cultural events, and creating a deeper connection between citizens and the Yamuna.

Modi called for improving the Chhath Puja experience for Delhiites and gave special attention to the Braj region, suggesting its inclusion in a broader cultural and environmental revival effort.

The session was attended by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other top officials.
