Vijayapura, April 18: The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a Janakrosh Yatra in Vijayapura city, North Karnataka, on Thursday, targeting the Congress-led state government over rising prices and the alleged allocation of Muslim quotas in government tenders.
Addressing a public gathering during the Yatra, BJP State president and MLA B Y Vijayendra alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had consistently neglected the state’s backward communities since taking office.
He claimed, “The Congress and CM Siddaramaiah have abandoned backward communities and are working solely in favour of minorities.”

Referring to recent announcements in Siddaramaiah’s state budget, Vijayendra pointed out that the chief minister promised 4% reservation for Muslims in government contracts, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the marriages of Muslim women, and Rs 30 lac to support Muslim youths pursuing higher education abroad.
Vijayendra further highlighted that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who scrapped triple talaq to ensure dignity for Muslim women. He emphasised that welfare initiatives such as the Bhagyalakshmi scheme and the bicycle distribution programme launched by former CM B S Yediyurappa benefitted both Hindus and Muslims equally.
He also criticised the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, stating, “During the UPA regime, numerous scams surfaced, and the youth had lost hope in the country’s future. But Prime Minister Modi revived that hope and proved that India has a bright future.”
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, also addressed the gathering and claimed that it was the BJP that had truly honoured Dr B R Ambedkar.
“We increased Dalit reservation and regularised civic workers,” he said, underlining the BJP’s efforts towards social justice.
Narayanaswamy reminded the audience that Ambedkar had once referred to the Congress party as a “house of destruction” and urged Dalits to reconsider their political affiliations and support the BJP.
He concluded by stating that the BJP government was committed to correcting the “historical mistakes” made by the Congress over the decades.
