Mumbai, Apr 15: In a historic move, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) convened its 86th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday and unanimously approved the renaming of several stands at Wankhede Stadium in honor of cricketing legends.

The Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will now be known as the Rohit Sharma Stand, Grand Stand Level 3 will be renamed the Sharad Pawar Stand, and Grand Stand Level 4 will be the Ajit Wadekar Stand. Rohit Sharma, a stalwart of Mumbai cricket, led India to victory in both the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025.

In a poignant tribute to the late Amol Kale, former MCA president, the MCA Pavilion's match day office will be renamed the MCA Office Lounge in his memory.

MCA president Ajinkya Naik commented, "Today's decisions reflect our deep respect for the pillars of Mumbai cricket and our commitment to building a stronger future. These stands and the lounge will forever honor those who contributed to Mumbai's cricketing legacy."

Additionally, the AGM approved a substantial increase in the corpus for affiliated clubs to Rs 75 cr, with plans to boost it to Rs 100 cr in the coming years, aimed at bolstering grassroots infrastructure and the long-term growth of cricket across Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma, a Mumbai cricket icon since 2007, remains one of the most successful players in Indian cricket history, having represented India in 159 T20Is, 273 ODIs, and 67 Test matches. His T20 career ended after leading India to the World Cup victory in Barbados last year.

The city also celebrated India's open bus parade after the T20 World Cup, which concluded at Wankhede Stadium.
