Guwahati, Apr 15: Assam rang in the New Year on a vibrant note as people across the state came together to celebrate Bohag Bihu—one of the most cherished festivals of the region. Marking the onset of the Assamese New Year, Bihu celebrations were held with traditional gaiety in both urban and rural pockets of the state.

Taking to social media platform X, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his delight over the festive spirit sweeping across Assam. “Today, from Kamakhya to Kachakanti, people across Assam are welcoming the new year and celebrating Assam's success in the year gone by,” the CM posted.

On this auspicious occasion, the Chief Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the people of the state, stating, “On this special day, our Govt renews its commitment to make Assam one of Bharat's Top 5 States and ensure the welfare of every citizen.”

From village squares to city stages, Bihu celebrations showcased Assam's rich cultural traditions. Bihu committees across the state have organised dance performances, musical evenings, and community feasts featuring local artists, with a special focus on preserving the essence of Assamese heritage.

Youth groups, dressed in traditional attire, performed with enthusiasm in open grounds and community halls, while families gathered in homes to share festive meals, exchange greetings, and honour age-old customs.

Despite the fast-paced life in urban areas, the celebrations brought people together to reconnect with their roots. Schools and offices remained closed, giving everyone an opportunity to return to their hometowns and immerse themselves in the spirit of unity and joy.

Extending his greetings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the people of Assam a happy Bohag Bihu. “May the new year bring new beginnings, happiness and prosperity in all you do. Praying for everyone's good health and fulfilment of all aspirations,” he posted on X.

As the rhythms of the dhol and pepa echoed through the air, Bihu once again proved to be not just a festival, but a celebration of life, togetherness, and cultural pride for the people of Assam.
