Malda, Apr 6: Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, the BJP legislator from English Bazar in West Bengal’s Malda district, has expressed concerns over possible attacks on Ram Navami processions scheduled to take place on Sunday in the minority-dominated areas of Malda and Murshidabad.
Raising an alarm, she said that she has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the deployment of central forces to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations.

"After the recent attacks in Mothabari (Malda) and Beldanga (Murshidabad), I fear a similar situation during Ram Navami processions. The state police force is limited and often relies on civic volunteers, which may not be enough to manage any law-and-order issues,” said Mitra Chaudhury on Saturday.
She added that Ram Navami is celebrated on a large scale in her constituency of English Bazar, and this year too, major processions are planned. “Given the tense atmosphere, I have requested the Centre to keep CAPF personnel on stand-by and deploy combat forces, if necessary,” she stated.
The BJP MLA also alleged the presence of radical elements in border areas near Bangladesh, claiming that certain groups are targeting underage minors for brainwashing. “The masterminds are operating from Jammu and Kashmir, while their associates are active in Malda and Murshidabad,” she claimed.
Recently, senior police officials had also confirmed receiving intelligence alerts about attempts to incite violence during the Ram Navami celebrations in the region.
