‘Payann’ premiere in Bengaluru: A celebration of Konkani cinema

Bengaluru, Mar 14: The eagerly anticipated premiere of 'Payann', a Konkani film was hosted by the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) on Mar 2. Directed by Joel Pereira and produced by Melwyn and Neeta Peris under Sangeeth Ghar Productions, the film features Brian Sequeira, Leslie Rego, Kate Pereira, Jasmine D'Souza, Shaina D’Souza and Melisha Pinto in major roles.

Payann – A Timeless Legacy, tells the story of Christopher Peris, a struggling musician who realizes that true harmony in life goes beyond mastering melodies. As he navigates the hurdles of the music industry while battling personal demons, deception, and unforeseen relationships, Christopher remains determined to leave a lasting legacy. His journey and the challenges he overcome form the heart of the film Payann.

The screening in Bengaluru was graced by Melwyn Peris, along with Actors, Rynel Sequeira, Kate Pereira, Jeevan Vas, Jossy Rego, Albert Peris, Denver Peris, Arun Noronha, Christopher Peris, Shaina D’Souza and Camerman V Ramanjaneya. Kiran D’Souza expertly emceed the event, inviting Dr Fr Victor Lobo, FKCA office bearers - immediate past chairman Silvian Noronha, past chairman Dr Anand Edward D’Souza, Dr Fr Francis D Almeida, general secretary Vincent D’Souza, ex general secretary Leena Lobo, treasurer Zaveena Lobo and cultural secretary Sharon Rego on to the dais.

Dr Fr Francis D Almeida present spiritual director FKCA, prayed for the success of the screening, extending blessings to those responsible for bringing "Payann" to Bengaluru. Chairman Robert Cutinha welcomed Producer Melwyn Peris on stage, expressing gratitude to the cast and acknowledged efforts of various affiliates of FKCA towards supporting the event.

Yodeling King Melwyn Peris then took the stage, expressing gratitude to his team for accompanying him to Bengaluru, introducing the team of actors, thanking FKCA for the honor and for screening the movie Payann. Dr Fr Victor Lobo SJ vice chancellor of St Joseph’s University was felicitated by FKCA past and present chairpersons. Fr Victor then shared a few words of inspiration.

On this occasion, Rishal Melba Crasta, a talented young singer from Mangaluru, who recently won the Super Singer 5 title, in Bengaluru on January 26, was also felicitated. Rishal, daughter of renowned Mangalore singer Rony Crasta and Matilda Crasta, is currently a 1st PUC student at St Aloysius College.

Cultural secretary Sharon Rego coordinated the program and performed 'Sanjechya Velar,' a song composed by Maestro Melwyn Peris, during the intermission. Rony Crasta and Rishal Crasta captivated the audience with their duet, Chandrem Udela. Later, Melwyn Peris, along with Sharon Rego, Rishal Crasta, and Rony Crasta, delighted the crowd with the popular song Dabazo.

Chairman Robert Cutinha acknowledged the efforts of Vinod Titus Monteiro, president Konkani Samudai Jayanagar for drawing the largest audience to the movie, along with Konkani Catholic Sangh, Yeshwanthpur, and KCWA, RT Nagar. A trailer of the upcoming movie Mog Thujo Kithlo Ashelom, by renowned filmmaker Sundeep Malani, was showcased. FKCA expresses sincere appreciation to all sponsors for their steadfast support towards this event.

Sounds were arranged by JSR Pro Sounds and Lights. Lawrence Joel designed flyers and worked on the promotional designs, Smruthi D’Souza managed the presentations and Terence Crasta handled the photography.

Viewers shared positive reviews over the movie Payann, praising the acting, cinematography, songs, and the portrayal of the musical movie worldwide. They expressed gratitude to FKCA for its initiative and urged the creation of more Konkani films and sequels.
