Mumbai, Mar 13: Bollywood actor John Abraham recently revealed that legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg praised his performance in the critically acclaimed film Water. However, the actor expressed disappointment that the film did not receive similar recognition in India.

Speaking about the 2005 Deepa Mehta directorial, Abraham shared that Spielberg personally commended his work, an acknowledgment that left him deeply honored. "He told me that he loved my performance in Water," John said. "It was a proud moment for me, but back home, no one even saw it for a day."

Water, which explored the plight of widows in colonial India, received international acclaim and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Despite its global recognition, the film faced initial backlash and controversy in India, which hindered its reach among mainstream audiences.

John’s revelation has reignited discussions about the lack of appreciation for meaningful cinema in the industry. Many fans have since taken to social media to celebrate Water and the actor’s powerful performance in the film.
