Mangaluru, Mar 8: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru marked International Women’s Day with an inspiring and vibrant celebration on Saturday, March 8, in the school auditorium. With a spectacular celebration, honouring the event, themed ‘Nari Shakti’ – the power of women, paid tribute to the strength, resilience and achievements of women across diverse spheres of life through a series of captivating performances, thought-provoking speeches and heartfelt acknowledgements.

The celebration commenced with a visually stunning introductory segment, where women representing different roles - mothers, teachers, doctors, farmers, scientists, soldiers, athletes and more, gracefully took the stage, embodying the essence of womanhood. The audience was deeply moved by the powerful message, “When women rise, the world rises with them”.

A solemn prayer followed, setting a reflective and reverent tone for the day. This was succeeded by a mesmerising welcome dance and a warm welcome address by students Kiara and Ridit, who extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, staff, specially the administrative staff and students.

The significance of Women’s Day was eloquently presented by Aryahi, Nathan and Savio, reminding everyone of the stride’s women have made and the challenges that still remain.

One of the standout moments of the event was the ‘Pioneers of Change’ fashion show, where students portrayed trailblazing women who broke barriers in their respective fields. The show was followed by a dance performance shedding light on women’s struggles, leaving the audience deeply moved.

A group song dedicated to ‘Nari Shakti’, performed by young boys, added a heartfelt tribute, expressing gratitude and admiration for the women in their lives.

A special felicitation ceremony was held to honour the women administrative staff of the school, recognising their dedication and invaluable contributions in ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution.

Each staff member was introduced with a heartfelt note on their role, receiving warm applause from the audience. Administrator Sr Carissima and chief guest Suman Mascarenhas honoured with a shawl and a token of appreciation. Additionally, Riann Jen D’Silva of grade VII A was felicitated for standing first in the school in the diocesan catechism exam 2024-25.

The chief guest Suman Mascarenhas, PTA joint secretary, delivered an inspiring speech emphasising the importance of empowering women in all aspects of life. She reinforced that every woman, whether a homemaker or a professional, deserves respect and recognition.

In her address, administrator Sr Carissima encouraged students to uphold the values of equality and respect and urged them to make Women’s Day meaningful by supporting their mothers and sharing responsibilities at home.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Himja and Ahan, followed by a powerful closing statement from the Emcees Kaitlyn, Sachith, Dane, Shannon, Chris and Shreema; “Women’s Day is not just a day, it’s a movement to support, empower and celebrate women every day”.

The event left a lasting impact on the audience, reinforcing the profound message that when women rise, society rises with them.

The school staff had a special Women’s Day celebration which included a prayer, an inspiring message, fun-filled games and a delicious lunch, making the occasion even more memorable.
