New Delhi, Mar 8: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has addressed concerns raised by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regarding the proposed delimitation process scheduled for 2026, assuring that it will result in an increase in seats for all states, including Tamil Nadu.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Rajnath Singh emphasized, "I strongly believe that the delimitation exercise should proceed as planned. If CM Stalin has objections, he is welcome to raise them. The relevant authorities will discuss the matter, and the judiciary will have the final decision."
He further reassured, "People can rest assured that the number of seats will increase across all states, whether for the Legislative Assembly or the Lok Sabha, after the delimitation process. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala will also see a rise in seats. The notion that only North India will benefit is unfounded."

The remarks come a day after CM Stalin wrote to seven Chief Ministers, urging them to oppose the delimitation exercise, which he has called a "blatant assault on federalism." Stalin expressed concern for southern states, stating that they are being penalized for their success in managing population control and economic growth.
Stalin, who has been vocal about the issue, humorously suggested that residents of Tamil Nadu should have more children to counter the potential reduction in parliamentary representation. "We controlled our population, built our economy, and now they want to diminish our voice?" he said during a recent public meeting.
In a bid to protect the interests of southern states, Stalin has announced the formation of a Joint Action Committee and called for unity to defend their rights. At an all-party meeting, he reiterated that Tamil Nadu would fiercely oppose the 2026 delimitation based on the 2011 Census, calling it a significant struggle to safeguard the state's future.
