Mangaluru, Feb 8: The students and staff of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated Science Day and ATL Day on Saturday, February 8 in the conference hall, marking a vibrant tribute to discovery and innovation. The event, themed ‘Global Science for Global Wellness’, celebrated the power of science in advancing global health and fostering progress.

The day kicked off with a soulful opening prayer, led by the students, reflecting on the wisdom and knowledge that science imparts to humanity. A lively welcome dance followed, immersing the audience in a creative display of rhythm and movement that symbolized the spirit of innovation and scientific breakthroughs. Shannon welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest Harisha CP, lecturer, department of mechanical engineering, KPT, Mangaluru.

The event was creatively inaugurated by the chief guest Harisha CP along with principal Sr Melissa and administrator Sr Carissima, who unveiled the theme of the day.

The opening ceremony, anchored by Shaunna and Salvina, was filled with excitement, as the audience was reminded of the importance of science in improving lives globally. Spandana highlighted the relevance of Science Day, emphasising its focus on global wellness and the significant contributions of science to global development.

A special highlight was a mesmerising magic show, which demonstrated the close connection between science and illusion. The show left the audience both amazed and curious, while illustrating how scientific principles are often behind the magic we see. Following the show, the MCCS choir performed a group song that echoed the theme of the event, celebrating unity and the universal benefit of science in ensuring the wellness of people around the world.

The chief guest, Harisha delivered an inspiring speech, urging students to pursue scientific inquiry with passion and curiosity. He stressed that curiosity is the driving force behind scientific development and that young minds have the potential to shape a better future for humanity through exploration and research. Daylon D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. Sherwin Patrao and Neha Saanidhya compeered the inaugural ceremony.

After the inaugural ceremony, the day continued with a series of enlightening sessions, beginning with a talk on Opportunities in Technical Education by Harisha C P. He shared valuable insights on how knowledge and values, rather than financial resources, play a key role in achieving success. He discussed the importance of skills, knowledge, and research in technical fields, stressing that technology is central to the on-going revolution of the 21st century. The session also featured a captivating video on the design and manufacture of cars in a factory.

The second session on Introduction to Components used in ATL, was conducted by Gavin Sequeira, an alumnus of MCCS. He highlighted how students can develop creative projects and innovations through the resources available in the ATL lab. Students from grades 7 and 8, part of the science and eco clubs, attended the session and were later witnessed the demonstrations of working models created by KPT students Deeraj, Yashwant and team, as well as models displayed by MCCS ATL students.

The event reached its climax with the valedictory programme, where the best model of the day ‘The Sustainable Boat’, was awarded to students Wernel Melron Pinto, Neol Pinto and Leron Pereira. The award ceremony was followed by a vote of thanks from Prakhyath, the ATL leader, who expressed gratitude to all those involved in making the event a resounding success.

The celebration of Science Day and ATL Day at MCCS showcased creativity, innovation and the power of science to transform lives. The event inspired all attendees to continue exploring, discovering and contributing to the vast world of scientific knowledge, encouraging them to use their talents to positively impact the world.
