Mangaluru: St Agnes College organizes outreach programme at Sanjeevan

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The department of clinical psychology from St Agnes Centre for post graduate studies and research organised an outreach programme at Sanjeevan, a centre for elderly home care with love. The programme was conducted focusing on engaging elderly participants through interactive and meaningful activities.

The programme started with a warm welcome and introduction which included the students introducing themselves and gave a short preview of what kind of interactions they would be engaging in today, as well as using this time to build rapport with the elderly. After this, there was an Ice Breaking session which had fun, light-hearted activities to ease the elderly into the session.

The cognitive restructuring activities were conducted which included various tasks such as word association, a pyramid knockdown challenge, a colour matching game, simple origami, and a cotton ball scoop game, all aimed at enhancing cognitive abilities and fostering social interaction.

After a while, the psychological assessments were done on the elderly individuals using the dementia rating scale, PGI, and geriatric rating scale, ensuring a comprehensive and detailed understanding of their psychological well-being and other cognitive functioning.

Finally, the programme concluded with a feedback session where the elderly shared their experiences and how they felt about the activities conducted, and facilitators expressed their gratitude for their enthusiastic involvement, marking the program as both impactful and enjoyable.
