Washington, Jan 17: President Joe Biden has decided not to enforce a ban on the popular social media app TikTok, which is set to take effect just one day before he leaves office on Monday. This leaves the future of the app in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.

Last year, Congress passed a law signed by Biden requiring TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance to divest the company by January 19, the day before the presidential inauguration. However, a U.S. official confirmed that the Biden administration will not implement the law, leaving its enforcement and potential ban to the incoming Trump administration.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, highlighted that the decision was based on internal discussions within the Biden administration.

Donald Trump, who has previously called for a ban on TikTok, has since shifted his stance, promising to keep the app available in the United States. However, his transition team has yet to provide specific details on how they plan to achieve this.
