Punjab, Apr 18: Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, a notorious gangster involved in a series of grenade attacks in Punjab, has reportedly been detained in the United States. Passia, named in at least 14 grenade attacks over the past seven months, has been a key figure in terror activities targeting police posts, religious sites, and public figures.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier charged Passia, along with Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu (Rinda), in connection with the 2024 grenade attack in Chandigarh. Investigations revealed that the duo masterminded the attacks to instill fear among law enforcement and the public, while advancing the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror agenda.

Passia had been on the run, with a non-bailable warrant issued against him earlier this year in relation to a grenade attack targeting a retired police officer's house in Sector 10, Chandigarh. Local associates were reportedly provided explosives and logistical support by Passia to carry out these attacks, contributing to the growing wave of violence in the region.
