Udupi, Sep 22: An elderly man in a helpless condition was rescued by the District Civilian Committee in Udupi. The man was found stranded on the road, unable to care for himself, and in need of urgent assistance.

Nityananda Olakadu, social worker and convener of the District Civilian Committee, took immediate action to ensure the man received proper care. Olakadu emphasized the importance of providing shelter and rehabilitation for the elderly, especially those who are abandoned or living in vulnerable conditions. He urged authorities to move the rescued man to the rehabilitation centre run by the senior citizens' helpline, where he could receive the necessary care and support.

Olakadu highlighted that incidents like this are becoming more frequent and called for greater community involvement to address the issue of abandoned senior citizens. He stressed the need for more robust systems in place to provide timely assistance to the elderly, many of whom are left without family support. The senior citizens' helpline, along with other local services, plays a vital role in ensuring such individuals are given the care they deserve.

The rescued man is now expected to receive the proper rehabilitation and care he needs, thanks to the prompt intervention of the District Civilian Committee.
