New Delhi, Apr 23: In the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists — including two foreigners — Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called for a resolute and united response from the nation. Terming the incident as a “despicable carnage”, Kharge said the perpetrators must not go unpunished.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, Kharge expressed his anguish over the attack and said he had spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and senior Congress leaders late Tuesday night.

“The deadliest terror strike since Pulwama has shaken the nation’s conscience. The innocent victims of Pahalgam must get justice. Those responsible for this heinous act must be dealt with sternly. This is not the time for division, but for unity and decisive action,” Kharge stated.

He further urged the central government to convene talks with all political parties to strengthen the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir and restore confidence among tourists and residents alike.

“The government must ensure that every effort is made to protect lives and maintain peace in the region. Unity in action is the need of the hour,” he added.
This cross-border terror strike marks the most significant attack in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama incident, once again raising concerns about the safety of civilians, especially in prominent tourist zones like Pahalgam.
