Chitradurga doctor writes prescription in Kannada, gains widespread appreciation on social media

Chitradurga, Sep 18: A government doctor from Hosadurga in Chitradurga district has received widespread appreciation from Kannadigas for writing a medical prescription in Kannada.

Dr Purushottama Bilimale, president of the Kannada Development Authority, had recently written to the state government, urging doctors to write medical prescriptions in Kannada. Before any formal action was taken, Dr U S Sanjay, an orthopaedist at the Hosadurga taluk government hospital, took the initiative by writing prescriptions, symptoms, and medical advice in Kannada.

The prescription written by Dr Sanjay has gone viral on social media, with netizens praising his pro-Kannada approach.

Dr Sanjay explained, “I learned about the government's discussions regarding writing prescriptions in Kannada and decided to take the lead. I now write the medicines, dosage, and advice in Kannada. It feels natural to me since I was born and raised in Karnataka. We communicate with patients in Kannada, so now the information is also recorded in Kannada."

Although there are technical challenges in making Kannada prescriptions mandatory, health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao acknowledged the need for further discussion on the matter. He emphasized that while Kannada is widely spoken in Karnataka, misunderstandings between doctors, patients, and pharmacists could pose risks. The minister stressed the importance of a comprehensive dialogue involving all stakeholders before making any major decisions.

"Very nice, despite being such a great doctor, he hasn’t forgotten Kannada, which is why I like this doctor. Two years ago, Amit Shah thought about doing it in Hindi medium, but if medical education is done in Kannada in Karnataka, it will bring a wave of happiness to Kannada lovers.”

not so when it comes to your native Language Konkani. People tend to forget or deliberately pretend not to know konkani. Further take pride in not knowing konkani and even dont encourage kids to learn konkani.
