Puttur, Sep 13: St Philomena PU College, Puttur, hosted 'Philo Pratibha', a day-long inter-school competition for high school students, on September 13, at the Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall. The programme began with the dignitaries lighting the lamp.
In his presidential remarks, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, correspondent, Mai De Deus Church institutions, emphasized the importance of appreciating parents' sacrifices and encouraged students to utilize available opportunities and cultivate good qualities to contribute to the country's progress.
The chief guest, Prathima Hegde, president of the alumni association, St Philomena College, Puttur, highlighted the significance of the talent recognition event, emphasizing that every participant emerges as a winner. Her words encouraged and celebrated students' efforts, creativity, and courage.
The guest of honour, Dr Shriprakash B, vice president, parent teacher association, stressed the importance of developing talents and practicing consistently, alongside following the curriculum. He urged students to prioritize time management to reach their full potential.
Other dignitaries present included Jerald D'Costa, vice president, parish pastoral council, Puttur, Fr Roopesh Tauro, warden of boys hostel, Sis Looth Mary, warden of girls' hostel, and Sis Loura, headmistress, St Philomena Higher Primary School.
About 600 students from 30 high schools participated in various competitions, including seminar presentations, clay modelling, stand-up comedy, and more. The coordinators, Dr Asha Savithri, dept of Hindi and Vinola Amitha Lobo, dept of chemistry ensured the programme's success. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, principal, St Philomena PU College, Puttur welcomed the gathering, while Dr Asha Savithri, dept of Hindi proposed the vote of thanks, and Vinola Amitha Lobo, dept of chemistry compered the programme.
