Kolkata, Nov 14 (IANS): India lost the prized wickets of Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar in the afternoon session to reach 212/3 at tea on day one of the second cricket Test against the West Indies here Monday.
Gambhir (65) fell to pacer Fidel Edwards, who is playing in his 50th Test match. Rahul Dravid seems to be going from strength to strength as he was unbeaten with 62, while VVS. Laxman was on 1.
Tendulkar (38) got out to Devendra Bishoo, disappointing the spectators at the Eden Gardens, who had high expectations of the master batsman getting his 100th international ton during the day.
Gambhir, who had opened the innings with Virender Sehwag (38) and got his 17th half century in 43 Tests, played a confident knock embellished with some fine shots.
He was involved in two good partnerships - 66 with fellow opener Sehwag and 83 with Dravid.
The Delhi left hander played his first loose stroke in the post lunch session that also brought about his dismissal. He went for a drive to a ball way outside the off stump and gave a straight forward catch to Adrian Barath at short cover.
