Moodbidri, Aug 9: Carmel School Moodbidri proudly hosted the AICS chess tournament marking a grand celebration of strategy, skill, and sportsmanship. The school auditorium buzzed with excitement as students, teachers and esteemed guests gathered to witness the inauguration of this prestigious event.
The morning began with the dignified arrival of the chief guest Prasanna Rao Boloor co-founder of Derik's chess school. He was accompanied by the guest of honour Fr Robert D'Souza parish priest of St Anthony Church Allipade Bantwal, Sr Lilly Pushpa AC the principal of Carmel School Pandeswar, Sr Maria Gracilda AC the principal, Sr Elena AC the administrator, Sr Preena AC the vice principal, Jossy Menezes PTA vice president along with Sr Ranitha and Sr Rosy, the coordinators.
The guests were warmly welcomed with a grand display by the school band and a marvelous guard of honor dressed in tricolor symbolizing respect for the nation. Students in black and white attire representing the chessboard greeted the guests at the entrance setting a thematic tone for the event.
The ceremony commenced with a soul-stirring opening chorus performed by the school choir creating a serene and spiritual ambiance. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries signifying the dawn of an exciting day. A mesmerizing welcome dance by the school's talented dancers added grace and joy to the occasion. Sr Maria Gracilda AC extended a warm welcome to the gathering with her heartfelt words. All the dignitaries were welcomed with a potted sapling and flowers.
The inauguration was done in a unique way where the trophies were displayed. The highlight of the inauguration was the symbolic first move of the AICS chess tournament 2024 performed by the chief guest and other dignitaries officially declared the tournament open. The audience erupted in applause setting the stage for a day filled with strategic moves and spirited competition.
Fr Robert D'Souza graced the event with his presence blessing the students and commending the management and Sr Maria Gracilda for their outstanding efforts in organizing and promoting sports within the school community. In his inspiring message he emphasized the critical role sports play in our lives, not only in fostering physical health but also in teaching essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
The event was further honored by the presence of the esteemed chief guest Prasana Boloor who expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the management and all participants. He proudly highlighted the remarkable growth of the AICS chess tournament noting with enthusiasm how it has been expanding every year, a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved. His words resonated with pride and optimism, encouraging continued excellence and participation in the world of sports.
The programme emceed by Clara and Harini and vote of thank was delivered by Sr Ranitha. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the announcement of the commencement of the matches marking the beginning of the day filled with strategic moves, learning and joy for all participants.
In the end, it is not about who wins or loses, but about how you grow through competition. The valedictory programme of the AICS Inter-School Chess Tournament 2024-25 commenced with an impressive escort of the guest led by a march past performed by the scouts and guides students. This was followed by a soul-stirring prayer song led by Prajwal and his talented team setting a serene and reflective tone for the event.
Sr Preena welcomed the gathering with her words of wisdom emphasizing the spirit of camaraderie and growth that the tournament fostered among participants. A highlight of the ceremony was the honoring of Anil Rueben Mendonca a dedicated social worker and internationally acclaimed bodybuilder for his outstanding contributions to society. His exemplary service and dedication serve as an inspiration to all embodying the values of perseverance and community service.
As the day unfolded approximately 500 participants engaged in intense matches showcasing their chess prowess and strategic thinking. The event was a testament to learning and joy as students from various schools competed with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
The much-anticipated prize distribution ceremony took place in the evening graced by the chief guest Anil Rueben Mendonca social worker and International Bodybuilder. In his valedictory address Anil Rueben praised the participants for their dedication and skill, inspiring confidence, and ambition among the young players. He awarded certificates and trophies to the winners in each category. Mementos and certificates were given to all the participants.
The valedictory ceremony was skillfully compered by Shanthi and Linet and vote of thanks was delivered by Sr Rosy. Food and refreshments were provided to all present ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone involved. The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by the staff, parents, and students to the management and Sr Maria Gracilda AC for organizing the AICS Chess Tournament 2024 at Carmel School Moodbidri.
The event was supported by skilled arbiters Prasana Rao Boloor co-founder of Dericks chess tournament, Deric Pinto founder of Dericks chess school, Vanishree Baliga head coach in Bantwal, Praneetha Shetty head coach in Udupi, Chandrashekhar Bhandary coach and organizer in Bantwal and Sunil Almedia a chess coach. Their guidance and motivation were crucial in fostering a spirit of excellence and sportsmanship among the competitors. Devaki and Harshal was also given memento for successfully organizing this event in the school.
The dedicated volunteers from Grade IX and X played an integral role throughout the day, demonstrating remarkable commitment and enthusiasm.
The tournament was not just a competition but a celebration of strategic thinking and camaraderie, leaving participants and attendees with cherished memories and a sense of accomplishment.
