Harihar, Jul 21: A group of enthusiastic students of Class V and VI embarked on a meaningful journey on July 20 to Sudhama Ashram, run by the Missionaries of Charity Sisters (well known as Mother Teresa Sisters).
This visit aimed to instil values of compassion, empathy, and selflessness in the young minds. As they interacted with the elderly and marginalized destitute, the children had a profound experience that will stay with them forever.
Observations and interactions:
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the Charity Sisters and the residents of the Ashram. They were introduced to the daily lives of the elderly and destitute, who shared their stories and struggles. The children listened attentively, showing genuine interest and concern.
The students engaged in various activities, such as:
- Participating in recreational activities like skit, singing, dancing, and playing games with the elderly.
Impact and reflection:
As the children interacted with the residents, they began to understand the importance of loving and respecting elders. They witnessed the challenges faced by those in need and recognized the value of caring for others. This experience fostered a sense of empathy and compassion within them.
The students reflected on their visit, sharing their thoughts and feelings:
- "I learned that everyone deserves love and respect, regardless of age or background."
- "I realized how lucky I am to have a family and home, and I want to help those who don't."
- "I saw how happy the residents were when we spent time with them, and it made me happy too!"
-“I realised that I should take care of my loving parents in their old age”.
Conclusion
The visit to Sudama Ashram was a transformative experience for the students of Class V and VI. They returned with their hearts filled with love and concern, carrying valuable lessons and memories. The experience instilled in them the importance of:

- Appreciating their own blessings
The school and parents can build upon this experience, encouraging the children to continue spreading love, kindness, and compassion in their daily lives.
