Mangaluru, Jul 8: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor, proudly hosted the "VTU Mangaluru Division Men and Women Shuttle Badminton Tournament 2024-25" on July 7 and 8 at the Global Badminton Arena, Vamanjoor.
The event commenced with a formal inauguration, beginning with a prayer song to invoke the blessings of the Lord. Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, assistant director, SJEC graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his inspiring address to the participants, Fr Kenneth R Crasta emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and the joy of participation over merely winning. He motivated all team members to play their best game and enjoy every tournament moment and concluded his speech by wishing good luck to all participants.
Priya Miranda, the sports advisor, welcomed the gathering, while Vaneesha Vidya Rodrigues, physical education director proposed a vote of thanks. Prisha Kamalaksha Ail and Vijitha M V compered the programme.
The tournament witnessed the enthusiastic participation from students of neighboring institutions, including NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology (AIET), Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management (SCEM), Bearys Institute Of Technology (BIT), AJ Institute of Engineering and Technology (AJIET), Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology, Bhantakal (SMVIT), Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapur (MIT), Yenepoya Institute of Technology, Moodbidri (YIT), Canara Engineering College Benjanapadavu (CEC), Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology, Puttur (VCET), Shree Devi Institute Of Technology (SDIT), Govt Engineering College Karwara (GEC) and the host college St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC).
Dr Ramananda H S, dean of Student Welfare at SJEC, graced the valedictory ceremony as the chief guest. He shared the stage with the PEDS and distributed the trophies to the winners and runners-up.
In the men's section, NMAMIT emerged victorious, with MITE securing the runner-up position. SJEC claimed the winners' trophy in the women's section, while CEC finished as runner-up. The tournament was a resounding success, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of students from various institutions under the VTU Mangaluru Division. The event not only highlighted competitive spirit but also fostered friendship among the participants.
