Manipal, Jul 4: Manipal Universal Press (MUP), a unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has released a significant book titled "Genesis of the Speech and Hearing Profession in India and its Growth." Edited by Dr Kalyani Mandke and Dr B Rajashekhar, this book delves into the history and development of the Speech and Hearing profession in India.
Lt. Gen. (Dr) Venkatesh, VSM, vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) remarked, "Technology is transforming the speech and hearing field in remarkable ways, and this book captures that transformation comprehensively. Edited by two senior professionals with contributions from esteemed authors, it is an extraordinary read. It honours the pioneers in the field, blending technical insights with inspiring personal stories, making it a rich resource for current and future practitioners."
Dr Kalyani Mandke shared her experiences from her extensive career, explaining how her article on the profession's origins in India expanded into this comprehensive book. She co-edited the book with Dr Rajashekhar, with contributions from Dr Sunila John and Dr Radish Kumar. Dr. Mandke emphasised the book's aim to fill the gap in documented educational resources in India.
Dr B Rajashekhar spoke about the dedication and hard work that led to the book's creation, crediting Dr Mandke’s perseverance. He also acknowledged mentors Dr N Rathna and Prof Ramesh Oza for their pioneering efforts in starting India's first training program in this field.
Prof Neeta Inamdar, chief editor of MUP and head of Manipal Centre for European Studies (MCES), praised Dr Mandke’s commitment to attending the event despite a shoulder injury. She emphasised the significance of MUP’s 280th book release and highlighted MUP’s global impact through collaborations with Springer Nature and Taylor & Francis. She encouraged attendees to explore MUP’s diverse publications and consider future collaborations.
